The advanced manufacturing and materials industry in Utah is growing exponentially every year and, with this growth, comes a need for talented employees to fill the many high-paying positions available. To help fill this workforce gap, many higher education institutions in Utah now offer industry-related degrees to prepare and qualify the incoming workforce.

Manufacturing Engineering BS

The Manufacturing Engineering BS program has emphasis areas in materials and processing for metals, plastics and composites, as well as lean, quality, and automation.  This program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Students take courses or electives in the area of materials and manufacturing processing including several courses in Additive Manufacturing and Computer Integrated Manufacturing. Students can take courses or electives in the area of materials and manufacturing processing including several courses in Additive Manufacturing and Computer Integrated Manufacturing. Mechanical Engineering BS

The Mechanical Engineering BS program has emphasis areas in aerospace or materials.  This program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET).  As well as taking core engineering classes, students may take technical elective courses in various aerospace or advanced materials areas including composites design, with the option for a program emphasis on aerospace. MS and PhD degrees are also available. https://me.byu.edu/

Material Science & Engineering BS

The Material Science and Engineering BS program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Students take required and elective courses relating to development and processing of various materials as well as how to process these materials. Mechanical Engineering BS

The Mechanical Engineering BS program has an emphasis area in manufacturing. This program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Students obtain a Mechanical Engineering BS, but choose electives related to manufacturing. Some of these electives are related to Additive Manufacturing (AM). One is a basic introductory course to AM, and there are several more specific AM-related courses such as laser-based AM and materials characterization. Mechanical Engineering BS

The Mechanical Engineering BS is based on traditional Mechanical Engineering curriculum with an emphasis on aerospace. This program is fully accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET). Students take courses in materials which are associated with aerospace as well as a new composites engineering course recently added. Composites Engineering Masters

UAMMI recently secured funding from the Utah legislature for a new Masters in Composites Engineering degree program. This is to be a one-year, non-thesis program of coursework allowing bachelor’s degree holders in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science and related fields to gain knowledge of advanced composite materials design and manufacturing. It is planned to be a joint program with coursework from both USU and Weber State University. Portions of the program are planned for distance delivery through the USU system and the degree would be awarded through USU. It is planned for introduction in 2021.

The technology systems bachelor’s program is offered through USU’s Department of Technology, Design, & Technical Education (TDTE). TDTE strives to create innovative programs for students in a variety of fields, providing high-quality education from faculty with real-world experience. Students will study a variety of subjects based on the emphasis area they choose. Business, marketing, lean manufacturing, CAD, robotics, controls, material science, quality & reliability systems, electronics, color theory, textiles, digital design, computer science, cyber security, computer networking, and computer automation are just a few areas that students can discover through their coursework. The intention of this program is to allow those in the workforce an opportunity to advance in their career and further their education by offering degrees that work well with their demanding schedules.
